Bradford Court was built for Bishop Thomas Wilkinson, first Bishop of Zululand (1870-1880) late in the turn of the Century and believed to have been completed in 1903. Ecclesiastical inscriptions found above the main entrance and bay windows to the west of the house are thought to reflect his stellar academic achievements. There is no doubt that Bradford Court is a handsome property built of dressed stone elevations with hamstone mullions, contrasting quoins and tall chimneys all adding to its distinctive appearance. The house is Listed Grade II and exhibits many features associated with this period. The house is found in good decorative order with large windows affording a great deal of light and all rooms enjoy lovely outlooks over surrounding parkland style gardens. A formal entrance with double panel doors leads into the property, the entrance hall being particularly gracious with elaborately plastered ceiling, oak floor, fireplace with woodburning stove and a sweeping staircase with high north facing window. The kitchen is west facing with French doors out onto the terrace and is fitted with an extensive range of Victorian style wood cabinets, central island and a four-oven electrical-fired AGA. The original dining room is at present furnished as a sitting room with a beautifully plastered ceiling and further stone fireplace with Chesney woodburning stove. The inner hall leads through to the study, the office / studio, traditional pantry, laundry and former utility room. There is a door from the inner hall leading down to the wine cellar.
