Why I Love Weybridge

Our Weybridge Lettings Negotiator Tierney Nankeville, grew up locally and tells us why she still loves to call the area home

Tell us about your connection to the area

I spent a lot of my childhood years in Weybridge, where I lived with my family in Burwood Park - it was great because there was a fantastic family environment there, my sisters and I have lots of great memories from that time. I was lucky to go to school at Notre Dame, which is just down the road from our Jackson-Stops’ office on Queens Road, between Cobham and Weybridge. Now that I’m spending my days working in Weybridge and speaking to many families considering schooling options, it’s a massive advantage that I have first-hand knowledge of living in the area when I’m discussing letting and renting properties with landlords and tenants.

Tell us an interesting, lesser known fact about the area

In 1540, King Henry VIII annulled his marriage to Anne of Cleves. Anne’s family didn’t want to take her back, so Henry was left with the problem of where she should live; he eventually hit on the idea of making her his ‘sister’ and built Oatlands Palace for her in Weybridge.

Who else loves living here?

This area is brilliant for people at every stage of life, so it really does cater for everybody: from tenants who are young, single professionals looking for great commuter links into London, through to growing families in search of a fabulous quality of life, great education, amazing sports facilities and beautiful Surrey countryside on the doorstep. We also help plenty of retirees who are downsizing and looking to rent something more centrally in the town while they decide on their next house purchase. There really is something for everybody here, which is what makes it so hard to leave!

Where’s the best place to grab a bite nearby?

I have a few favourites, but top of the list has to be No. 7 Temple, which has a really wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff and absolutely delicious Indian cuisine!

What sort of properties are available here?

People looking to rent in this area are spoilt for choice because of the wide range of property that’s available: we let substantial period properties on private estates through to contemporary one-bedroom apartments near the station. Currently we have a beautiful two bedroom apartment available in Cleve Place and a lovely four bedroom home in Churchill Drive, which is situated in the popular Oatlands area of Weybridge.

How are rental prices performing in the area at the moment?

We are finding property rental prices are slightly lower in comparison to previous years, which appears to be due mainly to the ongoing political uncertainties we are experiencing: renting is a great way to keep plans flexible and so we are talking to lots of people who would prefer to rent instead of buy at the moment. We have a dedicated Short Lets department that deals with property rentals for shorter lengths of time, generally tenancies lasting no longer than months, which again offers great advantages to both landlords and tenants. I’m always delighted to talk to people considering letting or renting in the area and would be happy to answer any questions.
